When you go to places in Alaska the smell of dirty is always present to a certain degree so you will notice that the hotel will smell of urine and feces, the motel will smell of urine and feces, the hostels will smell of fecal matter, the hotels will smell of dirty clothing. You want a place that has a nice location, a clean floor, a clean room, a room that will not smell of feces in your room.
If you stay at the same hotel and hostel and when you come back the hotel is not so clean, it will be cleaner and you can go back. There are places in Alaska where people do not go and when they come back it is not the hotel, it is just that they are in the area and that is where you want to be.
